About Chapters:

FOSEP chapters are led by graduate students, professional students, and postdoctoral fellowsfrom a range of programs in the natural sciences, engineering, social sciences, humanities, and professional schools.

Chapters promote civic dialogue about issues at the intersection of science and society among their members, the broader campus, and community. Previous discussions have highlighted issues such as energy independence, food policy, and science education.

Want to start a new chapter?

Great! We're thrilled to meet others who are excited about connecting science and society. But we've been so busy with our campus chapters and finishing our PhDs that we haven't yet set up a cross-campus mechanism to start FOSEP chapters. It may happen, but...

The good news is that there are ton of like-minded groups, and we encourage you to look for them on your campus. Some examples include UC-Berkeley's STEP program, MIT's Science Policy Initiative, and various Student PugWash chapters. (Email info@fosep.org to add your group to the list!)

Whether you're part of a campus organization or not, we encourage you to apply for the Emerging Fellows in Science & Society (ELISS) Fellowship program. Fellows will work with other early-career folks, mentors, and national thought leaders to lead interdisciplinary dilogue on their campuses and civic dialogue in their communities.
